ανατ. καθένα από τα δύο πλάγια τμήματα τής άνω κοιλίας που βρίσκονται κάτω από το σύστοιχο πλευρικό τόξο

[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. < ὑπ(ο)-* + χόνδρος + κατάλ. -ιος. Τη λ. με την επιστημονική σημ. δανείστηκε η Λατινική (πρβλ. λατ. hypochondria) και οι νεώτερες γλώσσες (πρβλ. αγγλ. hypochonder, γαλλ. hypocondre)].
